Additional Plan Information
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina's® (BCBSNC®) short-term health plan is designed to provide flexible solutions for temporary protection against unexpected health care expenses. Short-Term Health Care offers a package of benefits similar in many ways to a traditional BCBSNC® major medical plan but at a fraction of the price. Also, you determine how long you need the coverage - 30 days, 45 days, 60 days or 90 days.
Short-Term Health Care offers 2 deductible options of $500 or $1000. After meeting the deductible, the policy will pay 80% of covered services. Once you have satisfied the coinsurance maximum ($1000/individual or $2000/family per benefit period), BCBSNC® covers any additional expenses at 100% up to $2 million.
In order to be eligible for Short-Term Health Care coverage from BCBSNC®, you & your dependents must be North Carolina residents under the age of 65 who are not covered by other health insurance including Medicare & Medicaid. Additionally, you must medically qualify and not have been covered by a Short-Term Health Care plan within the past 12 months. Because Short-Term Health Care is intended to meet only temporary insurance needs, the policy is not renewable. You may elect any date within 30 days of your signature date to be your coverage effective date.
® mark, SM marks of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. SM1 mark of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.1 Based on established provider’s reasonable charges for covered services. 2 Your deductible, amounts exceeding allowed amounts, and charges for noncovered services do not apply to your out-of-pocket maximum. On a family certificate, no more than three family members have to satisfy their deductible during each benefit period. There is a waiting period for pre-existing conditions. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina defines pre-existing conditions as those conditions for which medical advice, diagnosis or treatment was received or recommended within 12 months of the date that your coverage under Short Term Health Care becomes effective. For costs and further details of the coverage, including exclusions, any reductions or limitations, and terms under which the policy may be continued in force, see your agent or write to the company. Your actual expenses for covered services may exceed the stated coinsurance percentage or copayment amount because actual provider charges may not be used to determine the payment obligations for BCBSNC and its members.
